Woodforest Charitable Foundation recently presented a $38,500 donation to Boys & Girls Country of Houston. Boys and Girls Country is a not-for-profit charitable Christian Home, providing children from families in crisis with love, security, a sense of self worth and opportunities to prepare them for a successful life.
Boys and Girls Country is home for 88 children who are between the ages of five and 18 and serves children whose families cannot care for them. Established in 1971, the home is located in northwest Houston and has served over 1,200 children in a warm and loving home environment. The children not only attend public school, but also participate in a variety of school, community, and church activities.
“We are very pleased to be the beneficiary of the foundation’s generosity and investment in our work with children,” said Mike Gatewood, Chair of the Board at Boys and Girls Country. “Boys and Girls Country must raise over $4.7 million annually to provide children a home, so this gift is most important to us.”
Kim Marling, Vice President of Woodforest Charitable Foundation, said, “These children are provided a loving family environment and opportunities that every child deserves. Every high school graduate also has the opportunity to attend college or a career training program. Boys and Girls Country will remain “home” to these children long after their childhood is over. We are delighted to support this wonderful organization that truly helps so many young children and teens.”
The vision of Boys and Girls Country is that every child has a place to grow up and a sense of being home. Its mission is to change the lives of children from families in crisis by loving and nurturing them in a Christian environment, raising them to become self-sustaining and contributing adults.
