AKRON, OH – Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank receives a $3,400 donation from Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank was formed in 1982 by a group of community leaders who made a commitment to provide emergency food to individuals in need. Today, the Foodbank provides food and other essential items to member agencies in eight Northeast Ohio counties. These member agencies operate more than 450 programs like food pantries, hot meal sites, shelters and other hunger-relief programs in the neighborhoods and communities where people need food.

The Foodbank secures food donations from corporate food donors, state and federal food assistance programs, and Feeding America, the national food bank network. Food is also obtained through a purchase program where large quantities of food are purchased at reduced price to offer to the Member Agencies. This purchase program is supported by our financial donations. Much of the donated and purchased food is transported to the warehouse by the Foodbank's fleet of trucks.

With more than 25% of Ohio’s children experiencing food insecurity, the Food Bank created and launched a response that addressed this critical need. The result was the Feeding Kids Initiative with a goal to alleviate hunger by providing children with regular access to safe and nutritious food. Within this initiative, the Food Bank offers a Kids Power Pack Program that provides children with kid-friendly items sent home on weekends to ensure that they have access to nutritious food when school is not is session.

“The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is extremely grateful for your recent gift. Together we are feeding people and fighting hunger,” said Daniel Flowers, President & CEO of Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank.
