SPRINGFIELD, IL – Woodforest Charitable Foundation makes a donation in the amount of $1,885 to Central Illinois Food Bank.

Central Illinois Food Bank, established in 1982 by a coalition of churches, distributes more than 8 million pounds of food annually to over 160 food pantries, soup kitchens, residential programs and after-school programs in a 21 county region.

Central Illinois Food Bank operates a 22,000 square foot distribution facility located in Springfield, Illinois that serves more than 105,000 individuals each year. The Food Bank also proudly operates a Kids Café program with Springfield Urban League. Kids Café is a nation-wide program through Feeding America that feeds children a hot, nutritious meal in a safe environment.

The Food Bank has three main sources for food donations: Federal USDA Commodities, National Donations (Feeding America), and Local Donations. Of those donations, 40% of the food is picked up by partnering agencies for distribution and 60% is delivered to food pantries, soup kitchens, children’s feeding program sites, and senior citizen feeding program sites.

“Thank you for your continued support of Central Illinois Foodbank and its fight against hunger. Your recent gift helps feed 17,600 people every week, including the 1 in 4 children in our community who are food insecure,” said Pam Molitoris, Executive Director of Central Illinois Foodbank.
