Springfield, IL Woodforest Charitable Foundation recently made a $5,000 contribution to the Central Illinois Foodbank. The donation will provide funding for its many Kids Café and Kids BackPack programs.

One in eight Americans are at risk of hunger.  Approximately 39 percent of these food insecure Americans are children, which means that one in every six children are going hungry or are at risk of hunger (Feeding America).

The mission of Central Illinois Foodbank is to collect donated food and grocery items from growers, manufacturers, processors, wholesalers and retailers for distribution to charitable agencies serving those in need, and work with public and private organizations to develop creative solutions to end hunger.  Last year, the Foodbank distributed nearly 5 million pounds of food to 168 organizations throughout 21 counties, covering 22% of the state’s geography.  These non-profit agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, after-school and residential feeding programs.  “Thank you so much for your donation of $5,000 to provide carry-home food to over 150 children and their families,” said Pam Molitoris, Executive Director of Central Illinois Foodbank.
