East Texas Food Bank was founded in 1988. As of today, they work with 200 partner agencies in effort to feed children, the working poor and seniors throughout 26 counties in East Texas. Over 16 million pounds of food is distributed annually, equaling approximately 14 million meals.

Their mission is, “Fight hunger and feed hope in East Texas.”, and their vision is, “A hunger-free East Texas.”

East Texas Food Bank participates in several feeding programs, including Mobile Pantry, Senior Servings, Senior Box Program, Summer Food Program, Kids Café/Snack Program, and BackPack Program. The mission of the BackPack Program is to help alleviate child hunger by providing hungry children with nutritious and easy to prepare food at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.

“I’m in fifth grade and I’ve been in the BackPack Program for months, because of this we get to have food on Fridays. It is fun, and you get to have food that you can give to the person who needs it, and not throw it away. My favorite things are, fiber bars, peaches, peanut butter and jellies, beanie weenie, and the canned food.” – Child in BackPack Program
