Feeding Southwest Virginia was founded in 1981 and has since grown into the primary hunger relief organization serving a staggering 12,400 square mile region encompassing 26 counties and 9 cities across Southwest Virginia. Its mission is to Nourish neighbors. Engage community partners. Develop solutions to address food insecurity, drives its expansive efforts to tackle hunger locally. Every year, Feeding Southwest Virginia distributes approximately 18.4 million pounds of food, equivalent to over 30.6 million dollars in value, through a network of over 400 partner programs, reaching over 104,000 neighbors each month. Its broad array of services includes mobile pantries, Kids Farmers Market, backpack programs, senior food boxes, community kitchens, and the innovative Community Solutions Center in Roanoke, which transforms former high-crime sites into community hubs offering healthy food access and education. Feeding Southwest Virginia’s blend of efficient food distribution and community-driven innovation continues to combat hunger and build hope across the region.
