SOUTH BEND, IN – Woodforest Charitable Foundation makes a generous donation of $2,920 to Food Bank of Northern Indiana.

Since 1993, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana has been feeding the hungry throughout Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, Starke and St. Joseph Counties.  The Food Bank works in partnership with 185 member agencies to feed the hungry, increase awareness of the effects of hunger, and lead programs designed to alleviate hunger.

“Know that each dollar donated to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana empowers us to deliver up to seven meals to people in need through our 185 member agencies,” said Milt Lee, Executive Director of Food Bank of Northern Indiana.

With the help of member agencies, in 2010, Food Bank of Northern Indiana was able to serve one-quarter million households. The food bank distributed 5 million pounds of food, with member agencies providing more than 1.2 million meals to soup kitchens, shelters, and off site feeding locations.

“Today, you have made a difference in the lives of thousands of your neighbors. So, on behalf of the Staff and Board of the Food Bank of Northern Indiana we thank you for your recent donation towards the Food 4 Kids Program. We value your support,” said Lee.

The Food 4 Kids Program’s mission is to work in partnership with the community to feed food insecure school-aged children, improving health, quality of life, and the ability to learn. This emergency food assistance program is designed to serve children in grades K-6. Within this program, the Food Bank offers Fun Packs (Back Pack) Program to ensure that food insecure children regularly receive nutritious, kid-friendly meals alleviating hunger when school is not in session. Also included in the Food 4 Kids Program are afterschool snacks and summer food services.
