LEXINGTON, KY - God’s Pantry Food Bank welcomes a $4,000 donation from Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Hunger is a disease that diminishes the lives of many Kentuckians.  Hunger strikes the unfortunate, overwhelming those who are experiencing other unforeseen needs.  Hunger affects not just the poor of Kentucky, but all children, elderly and others who might be in a tight spot and need a helping hand.

Yet hunger is a disease that has a cure.  For 55 years, God’s Pantry Food Bank has been collecting and distributing donated food to agencies across central and eastern Kentucky.  Today, God’s Pantry works with over 320 partner agencies to fight hunger and alleviate the symptoms that accompany it.  Woodforest Charitable Foundation’s recent contribution will support the Food Bank’s Kids Café and BackPack Programs.

The Kids Café is a collaborative effort designed to provide children with the nutritious meals they so desperately need and deserve.  Kids Café sites often provides children with more than just food, offering them emotional nourishment critical to healthy development, improving their self-image and enhancing their ability to learn. The BackPack Program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.  In addition to providing nutritious food to school children in need, the Program provides extra food for younger siblings at home.

“Thank you for your generous gift in support of our Kids Café and BackPack Programs,” said Kristin Ingwell Goode, Development Coordinator of God’s Pantry Food Bank.  “I can assure you that the Foundation’s contribution will make a difference in the lives of Kentucky’s children.”
