MACON, GA – Woodforest Charitable Foundation makes a $115.00 donation to the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.

Established in 1981, the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank exists to supply food and other commodities to 501(c)(3) agencies helping at risk citizens throughout Middle Georgia.  The Food Bank solicits, transports, sorts, stores, and distributes millions of pounds of food every year to the needy, hungry, and homeless through partner organizations in 24 counties.  Through this service and its in-house programs, the Food Bank is a vital link in the distribution of food, saving agencies millions of dollars in food costs that can be used in other programs for the needy.

Ronald Raleigh, Executive Director of Middle Georgia Community Food Bank has held his position since 1988. The explicit purpose of the Food Bank is the salvaging of surplus food. Mistakes in food processing, overproduction, and distribution become a source of supply for the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.

“Food banking is Middle Georgia is still in its infancy compared to other not-for-profit organizations. For this reason we welcome you, and it is with a sense of sincere pleasure that I say THANK YOU,” said Raleigh.

The Food Bank currently offers eight feeding programs, one of which is the Children at Risk partnership. This in-house program created by the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank is designed to help children at risk of being food insecure. The food bank supplies snacks, drinks, and other household items to youth on a monthly basis that help when there is no other means to food on weekends and school vacations.

“Woodforest is pleased to adopt the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank as a partner organization,” said Kim Marling, Executive Director & Vice President of Woodforest Charitable Foundation.  “As Woodforest’s presence grows throughout Georgia, so will our impact within the communities served.”
