HOUSTON, TX – North Channel Assistance Ministries was recently presented with a $4,500 donation from Woodforest Charitable Foundation to support the BackPack/Kids Café Programs and the Family Holiday Food Box Program.

North Channel Assistance Ministries (NCAM) is the emergency food pantry for the northeast quadrant of Houston.  The main focus of NCAM is helping area residents with short term emergency assistance, including food and clothing.

Currently North Channel Assistance Ministries offers feeding programs aimed at ending childhood food insecurity. The Kids Cafe program provides a daily hot meal and weekly nutrition education activities to at-risk youth at community partner sites each evening after school.  Throughout the school year the partnerships are formed with afterschool programs to provide children with food to take home over the weekend. At the end of each week throughout the school year, backpacks are filled with nutritious food and discreetly sent home with each child for the weekend. At the beginning of the year, all children receive a new backpack and can opener.

In addition to supporting North Channel Assistance Ministries’ Backpack and Kids Café programs, The Woodforest Charitable Foundation is also committed to helping families that are at risk of being food insecure during the holiday season. This year, Woodforest Charitable Foundation sponsored the Holiday Food Box program hosted by NCAM that donated 1,000 boxes of food, including turkey and ham, to needy families in the North Channel service area.

“Our plan is to use funding from organizations as yours to fund our expanded outreach into targeted areas of need throughout not only our community but others with Food Fairs and Children Summer Nutrition Programs. As a Valued Supporter We Again Thank You and look forward to your continued support and volunteer participation. We really appreciate your donation and look forward to this upcoming year,” said Rodney Redford, Executive Director of North Channel Assistance Ministries.
