DALLAS, TX – North Texas Food Bank welcomes a generous donation of $8,935 from Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Founded in 1982, the North Texas Food Bank is a Dallas nonprofit hunger relief organization that distributes donated, purchased and prepared foods through a network of more than 340 Food Assistance Partners in 13 counties. As a member of Feeding America, they support the nutritional needs of children, families and seniors through education, advocacy and strategic partnerships. The Food Bank strives to be the best nonprofit by including access providing access to nearly 130,000 nutritious meals every day.

ReThink Hunger is their three-year initiative to provide healthier food, develop new ways to extend their reach and improve the lives of those we serve. The Food Bank’s mission is to passionately pursue a hunger-free community.

Every dollar donated to NTFB provides three meals to hungry North Texans, and out of every dollar, 94 cents goes directly to hunger relief programs. Including access provided through SNAP application services, North Texas Food Bank provided 47 million nutritious meals last year.

Elementary school children on the free and reduced-price school meal program often face hunger when these meals are not available on weekends. The Food 4 Kids program provides backpacks full of nonperishable, kid-friendly food for them to take home on Friday afternoons. The program grew to 330 schools in fiscal year 2012 and approximately 11,000 chronically hungry children in Dallas, Denton, Collin, Rockwall and Fannin counties received backpacks full of food each weekend during the school year.

“Your support is invaluable to the North Texas Food Bank. By stepping forward in your commitment to the community, your dollars are supporting our pursuit of a hunger-free community. We appreciate and depend on your partnership,” said Jan Pruitt, President & CEO of North Texas Food Bank.
