River Bend Food Bank, established in 1982, operates across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including communities in Illinois such as Rock Island, Knox, and surrounding counties. Its mission is to lead the community‑wide effort to end hunger by distributing food, advocating for those in need, and helping individuals and families stabilize their lives through access to essential resources. As the largest hunger‑relief organization in the Quad Cities region, the food bank serves as a central hub that connects donated food with a broad network of local partner agencies. Through partnerships with more than 300–400 food pantries, schools, and community organizations, River Bend Food Bank distributes over 20 million meals each year to people experiencing food insecurity. Its programs include mobile food pantries that bring food directly to underserved areas, school‑based pantries and backpack programs that support children and families, and specialized services for seniors and low‑income households. In addition to providing food, the organization offers community outreach and support services—such as SNAP assistance and connections to job training and financial resources—to address the root causes of hunger and promote long‑term stability.
