AIKEN, South Carolina (December, 2009) – Woodforest Charitable Foundation recently donated $500 to Area Churches Together Serving (ACTS).

With temperatures near freezing, Aiken residents who struggle to keep warm can look to ACTS for respite from the frigid conditions.  Woodforest Charitable Foundation’s donation to ACTS will aid this worthy organization in their efforts to provide temporary and emergency assistance to those in need.

Established in 1986, Area Churches Together Serving’s mission is to help stabilize individuals and families in financial distress and to maximize their ability to live independently and with dignity.  ACTS accomplishes this in a caring and respectful manner, with an overall objective of building a stronger community.  Since inception, ACTS has provided food for more than 2 million meals, clothing for more than 59,000 individuals, utility assistance for more than 9,995 homes, and much more.

“With the status of the current economy and the recent tornado disaster we have seen an increase in 37+% of clients seeking assistance – many for the first time,” said Vicki Bukovitz, Executive Director of Area Churches Together Serving.  “We have limited funds to assist clients with their many and varied needs and with the grant you enable us to better serve the less fortunate in our community.  We are very grateful for Woodforest’s continued support of the ACTS ministry and for the $500 donation.”

ACTS is funded through local churches; individual, business and organizational contributions; grants; and the ACTS Resale Store.  For more information about Area Churching Together Serving, please call (803) 649-3800, send an email to actsofaiken.org or visit www.actsofaiken.org.
