THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Boys & Girls Country of Northwest Houston recently received a $27,500 contribution from Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Established in 1971, the Home is located in northwest Houston and has served over 1,300 children. The vision of Boys and Girls Country is that every child has a place to grow up and a sense of being home. Its mission is to change the lives of children from families in crisis by loving and nurturing them in a Christian environment, raising them to become self-sustaining and contributing adults. Boys and Girls Country is a not-for-profit charitable Christian Home, providing children from families in crisis with love, security, a sense of self-worth and opportunities to prepare them for a successful life. Residents live on campus in cottages with trained house parents and attend public school. They also participate in outside activities, such as church, band, sports and summer camps.

Boys and Girls Country has capacity to serve 48 boys and 40 girls, ages 5-18, at any one time. Not included in this number are 88 other young adults each year who are still a part of the organization but have graduated from high school and gone on to college, trade school, the military, or first jobs. Boys and Girls Country does not rely on federal or state grants for ongoing support and is not a United Way member agency. They depend on caring individuals, businesses, civic groups, churches, and foundations in the community for annual funding and volunteer support. The organization is committed to serve children who need a Home as no child is turned away because their family does not have money to pay for them.

“We are very grateful to all of our friends at Woodforest Charitable Foundation for helping us raise at-risk children to become successful adults. Your gifts have helped us meet the daily needs of our big family and give our children the resources and opportunities to grow into successful adults. Because you are there for us, we are able to be there for our kids. We cannot thank you enough for this amazing gift,” said Ginny Hargrave, Director of Development of Boy’s and Girl’s Country.
