Feeding America Southwest Virginia – Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank
SALEM, VA – Feeding America Southwest Virginia recently accepted a $9,495 contribution from Woodforest Charitable Foundation.
Since 1981, the Food Bank has provided millions of pounds of food and related product to hundreds of partner agencies that have served hundreds of thousands of individuals in need of emergency food assistance.
Many circumstances contribute to an inadequate food supply. It may be short term because of the loss of a job or long term because of inadequate incomes or illness. Whatever the reason, hunger does exist and the mission of the Food Bank is to strive to meet that basic need. The nutritional needs of thousands of deprived families in Southwest Virginia rest with the Food Bank and its partner agencies.
Partner agencies include non-profit food pantries, children's feeding programs, shelters, soup kitchens, rescue missions and elderly care facilities. These partner agencies rely on the Food Bank to provide them with large quantities of food to which they may not otherwise have access. Their mission is to feed Southwest Virginia’s hungry through a network of partners and engage the region in the fight to end hunger.
Through the assistance of local and national food assistance programs, Feeding America Southwest Virginia is able to provide nutritious, fresh foods to people in their region struggling with hunger; safe and nurturing places for children to have a meal; emergency assistance for disaster victims; as well as a chance at self-sufficiency for adults trying to break the cycle of poverty and hunger.
“We are most appreciative of our generous financial supporters like you. Your continued financial commitment is more than a gift; it is an investment in the building of our region’s future. On behalf of the Board of Directors, all of us here at Feeding America Southwest Virginia, and most notably the thousands of men, women and children who benefit from your donation, I offer you our deepest gratitude. Because of you, Feeding America Southwest Virginia will continue to Fight Hunger and Change Lives,” said Pamela Irvine, President & CEO of Feeding America Southwest Virginia.
