Family Promise of Greater Rochester recently received a $1,000.00 donation from The Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Founded in 2004, Family Promise of Greater Rochester began as RAIHN—modeled after the national Interfaith Hospitality Network to provide rotating church‑based shelter for families experiencing homelessness. Initially supported by 13 congregations and nine agencies, and launching operations on April 26, 2004, the organization now partners with over 40 faith communities and more than 1,800 volunteers to serve families in crisis. Their mission is to assist families at risk of or experiencing homelessness to achieve sustainable independence by providing person‑centered, holistic services in collaboration with the greater community. They deliver a trauma-informed model grounded in shelter, stabilization, prevention, community, and promise. Programs include emergency shelter transitions (now often in apartments or transitional housing rather than rotating congregational sites), Aftercare & Stabilization case management for up to one year, and Prevention & Diversion assistance to help families avoid entering shelter altogether. Operating a Day Center on Webster Avenue, Family Promise of Greater Rochester offers meals, showers, transportation, education, and housing navigation. Their success is marked by high placement rates of over 85 % of families transitioning into stable housing with strong local credibility among social service providers and volunteers alike.
