ROCHESTER, New York - Woodforest Charitable Foundation presents Foodlink, Inc. with a $1,850 donation.  The funds will support their Kids Café program sites.

Foodlink is a Feeding America regional food bank, which rescues and redistributes more than 13 million pounds of food annually to a network of 450 member agencies in a 10-county service area including: Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties.

The Food Bank’s mission is to provide hunger relief, eliminate the root cause of hunger, improve health and promote economic development. Their vision is to build a hunger-free community and a sustainable regional food system in which every individual has access to nutritious food and is empowered with the tangible skills to lead a healthy and productive life.

With 36% of clients served by Foodlink being children, their BackPack Program has a huge impact on children in the greater Rochester are. The BackPack Program is designed for children that rely on free and reduced-price school meals, and may be skipping or missing meals on weekends and school holidays. They exhibit signs of food insecure behavior at school, including difficulty concentrating, frequent nurse visits, low attendance, and food hoarding. Once enrolled in the BackPack Program, these children receive meals that they take home and can prepare for themselves. Foodlink provides this program to 1,667 children of low income families.  By offering this program, it allows the families to save money on their food budgets while the students see improved performance in school, attendance, and overall well-being.

“On behalf of Foodlink, the hundreds of agencies, and thousands of individuals we serve, thank you for your donation. We appreciate your support of our efforts to help end hunger at home! Working together we have the power to make a real difference in the lives of many people in our local community,” said Thomas Ferraro, Executive Director and Founder of Foodlink.
