Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana recently received a $5,220.00 donation from The Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Founded in 1980 by concerned citizens committed to the belief that no one in Indiana should suffer from hunger, Gleaners began distributing about 83,000 pounds of food to 35 agencies in its first year and became a certified Feeding America affiliate by 1981. Its mission is “to be a leader in the fight against hunger”, working in partnership with communities to collect, store, and distribute food to those in need. Serving 21 counties across central and southeastern Indiana, Gleaners now supports over 300 hunger-relief agencies, including pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, and youth programs, and has distributed hundreds of millions of pounds of food. Surpassing 800 million pounds to date. Gleaners run innovative programs such as drive‑through pantry distribution, mobile pantries, home delivery, school-based pantries, Senior Hunger Initiatives, and Fresh Connect Central, one of only a handful of regional produce cooperatives in the Feeding America network. Their updated organizational purpose emphasizes collaboration and equitable access: “United with others, optimize equitable access to nutritious food for people facing hunger and empower them to overcome the conditions causing their food insecurity.”
