Hoosier Hills Food Bank receives $835 donation from Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

BLOOMINGTON, IN – Woodforest Charitable Foundation makes an $835 donation to Hoosier Hills Food Bank in support of their Commodity Supplemental Food Program.  The Commodity Supplemental Food Program provides monthly food boxes to nearly 550 low-income seniors in Crawford, Martin and Orange counties.  Boxes generally include approximately 40lbs of high protein items, grains, vegetables, juices, canned meat or peanut butter, powdered or evaporated milk, a 2lb block of cheese, recipes, and nutrition information.

Hoosier Hills Food Bank collects, stores and distributes food to non-profit agencies that feed the hungry in brown, Lawrence, Orange, Owen, Martin and Monroe counties. Neatly 100 non-profit programs serve over 25,800 individuals each year with 3.2 million pounds of food from the food bank. Since opening in 1982, the Food Bank has distributed over 30 million pounds of food.

The Food Bank receives donated excess, damaged or unmarketable food from grocery stores, food distributors, food service establishments and restaurants that might be wasted otherwise. Community organizations, school classrooms, local churches and individuals help keep warehouse inventory stocked through numerous food drives.

Hoosier Hills Food Bank currently offers six feeding programs in Indiana designed to combat food insecure men, women and children.  Meal Share offers fully prepared meals that have been safely captured from restaurants, catering businesses, and other food preparation entities and in then distributes that food through a partner agency.  Mobile Pantries are another avenue for Hoosier Hills Food Bank to efficiently distribute food to underserved communities.
