Founded in November 1982 by local volunteers responding to rising food insecurity and food waste, HHFB began distributing around 81,000 pounds of donated food in its first full year. Its mission is “to feed people today and end hunger tomorrow by inspiring and collaborating with our community,” encapsulating a vision of a community free of hunger. HHFB now serves six counties, partnering with over 100 nonprofit agencies. From food pantries to shelters to reach more than 52,000 individuals monthly. With more than 5.7 million pounds of food distributed in 2024, including over 1.6 million pounds of fresh produce, the Food Bank powers innovative programs like Meal Share, Garden Route on Wheels, mobile pantry routes, and senior nutrition boxes. Volunteers remain the backbone of HHFB: they sort food donated by grocers, restaurants, and local drives, then distribute it to service providers free or at minimal cost, enabling agencies to feed people with dignity and efficiency.
