Austin, TX – On a continual basis Woodforest National Bank employees perform a multitude of fundraising events benefitting the Woodforest Charitable Foundation.  Both Woodforest National Bank and Woodforest Charitable Foundation are committed to making a positive impact in the communities in which Woodforest serves. This partnership benefits the community and organizations such as Loaves & Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley which recently received a $450 donation from the Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Loaves and Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley is a non-profit agency that offers the homeless and needy a place to go to restart their lives in a caring and supportive environment. Loaves and Fishes has served Upper Cameron and Willacy Counties for since 1991.

The mission of Loaves & Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley, Inc. is to improve the community by restoring broken lives.  Loaves and Fishes accomplishes this by feeding the hungry; sheltering the homeless; and providing job training and placement to those experiencing a life altering event that takes away their ability to afford the necessities of life.

The Food Bank has a main dining room that serves breakfast and dinner seven days a week to anyone who asks for a meal. Annually, more than 110,000 meals are prepared and served. In addition to providing meals, Loaves & Fishes also offers a Job Shop Program where GED classes and training in Microsoft Office software is provided for anyone who wants to study. The organization’s Homeless Shelter currently averages about 30 people per night, or 11,000 annually.

“Loaves & Fishes is more than a soup kitchen, more than a homeless shelter. Those two activities are our main purpose and focus, providing for emergency needs of the most vulnerable in our population. We’re a community center as well; a one stop center where social services are offered and community needs are met. Our real goal is to bring healing to broken lives, to help the hurting from being hungry and homeless,” said Pastor Bill Reagan, Executive Director of Loaves & Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley.
