Founded in November 1981 as a program of the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association, Mid‑South Food Bank became an independent 501(c)(3) organization in 1988 and joined the Feeding America network in 1982. Since its inception, it has grown into one of the region’s most vital hunger‑relief agencies. Its mission is to change lives by eliminating hunger in the Mid‑South, supported by a bold vision to transform hunger into hope. Through monthly distribution of around 2.5 to 4 million meals via 300 partner agencies across 31 counties, it supports children, families, and seniors through targeted initiatives such as Feeding Children (Kids Café, BackPack), Feeding Families (Hunger’s Hope and mobile pantries), and Feeding Seniors programs. Mid-South Food Bank emphasizes efficiency, equity, and dignity, sourcing food from retailers, growers, the USDA/FEMA, Feeding America, and purchasing options to ensure a variety of nutritious choices. The organization also engages in nutrition education, SNAP outreach, disaster response, and advocacy to dismantle structural barriers to food access.
