DALLAS, Texas – Woodforest Charitable Foundation makes a generous donation of $14,000 to the Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic, Inc.

Since 1972 Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic has been providing health care to the residents of the Dallas and surrounding counties.  Los Barrios Unidos works to improve the health and quality of life by providing a medical home for individuals and families. Currently, Los Barrios Unidos has more than 150,000 registered patients.  Last year, approximately 70,000 patient visits were conducted by the clinic.  The mission of Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic is to provide comprehensive primary, medical, dental and other support and health promotion services in an accessible, acceptable and affordable manner.

Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic is known for having high quality staff that is bilingual in English and Spanish.  In addition, the staff responds to needs with understanding and compassion within the cultural context of the community.  Los Barrios is a unique organization for a unique community.  Patients benefiting from Los Barrios' services pay on a sliding fee scale based on the US Poverty guidelines that are published every year.  No one is ever turned away for the inability to pay.  “Quite obviously, Woodforest National Bank is not just “any bank”, nor are Woodforest employees just “any employees”.  From the first telephone inquiry of a Woodforest employee to a special contribution presentation at a Branch Manager’s meeting, we have been impressed with Woodforest’s strong philanthropic underpinnings,” said Leonor Marquez, CEO of Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic, Inc.  “We would not be able to accomplish miracles without the support from excellent corporate citizens like Woodforest National Bank and Woodforest Charitable Foundation.”
