Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina recently received an $8,895.00 donation from The Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Woodforest Charitable Foundation

Founded in 1981 as a project of the Charlotte Area Fund, the organization became independent in early 1983 and incorporated as the Metrolina Food Bank before later adopting its current name. It quickly joined the national Feeding America network, scaling rapidly within the Carolinas. Its mission is to feed hungry people by soliciting and distributing food and household items through partner agencies, and to educate the community about the nature and solutions to hunger. Serving 19 counties across North and South Carolina, Second Harvest partners with over 950 agencies, including pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, child- and senior-focused programs to distribute more than 75 million pounds of food annually, with 47 million pounds of fresh produce, meat, and dairy. Their programming includes Mobile Pantries, BackPack weekend meals, Kids Café, Senior Boxes, and a community food rescue initiative, all supported by nutrition education, training for partner agencies, and public advocacy.
