CHICAGO, IL – Woodforest Charitable Foundation recently presented a $5,000 donation to Starlight Children’s Foundation Midwest.

When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, the day-to-day joys of childhood take a back seat to the rigors of treatment and hospitalization.  For more than 25 years, Starlight Children’s Foundation has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses and life-altering injuries.

Starlight’s mission is to help seriously ill children and their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities.  Research studies have found that Starlight’s programs help reduce children’s pain while helping them to better deal with, understand and manage their illnesses.  In addition, Starlight programs help the child, parents and siblings experience less depression, anxiety, pain and isolation and bond as a family.

Unlike any other charity, Starlight offers a comprehensive menu of outpatient, hospital-based and Web offerings, enabling Starlight to provide ongoing support for children and families — from diagnosis through the entire course of medical treatment.  “Families dealing with serious illness have been disproportionately affected by these tough economic times, and they need our programs now, more than ever,” said Terra Johnson, Program Manager of Starlight Children’s Foundation Midwest.  “Last year, over 300,000 children and their families benefited from Starlight’s programs.  We hope that Woodforest finds great joy in the inspiration and happiness their gifts bring to the many children and families whom we serve.”
