DAYTON, OH – The Foodbank, Inc. receives a $2,645 contribution from Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

For more than three decades, The Foodbank has served as the link for food relief in the Miami Valley.  The Foodbank nourishes hunger relief efforts through the acquisition and distribution of food to hungry citizens throughout Montgomery, Greene and Preble counties while providing the infrastructure for nearly 100 member programs that serve as the charitable food relief network in the area. The Foodbank strives to provide healthy, nutritious meals to all individuals served.

In 2011, through its network of hunger relief programs in their tri-county service area, The Foodbank provided more than 4.3 million meals, nearly 12,000 per day, to community and faith-based food pantries, and community kitchens.  The Foodbank addressed the nutritional needs of targeted, at-risk populations, through programs such as the Kids Café that offers children food in a safe after-school location. The Foodbank also offered the Good-To-Go BackPack Program for children who live in poverty and need food to get them through the weekend.

Local children in grades K-8 living in food-insecure households are at risk of weekend hunger. The Good-To-Go BackPack Program provides children with a bag of food every Friday in their school backpack to take home. The food provides much needed sustenance, is kid-friendly and easy to open for children to enjoy. No one but the child knows what is in his or her backpack, thus maintaining the dignity of each participant. Support from Woodforest Charitable Foundation has helped 1,953 children in 2009, 2010, 2011. This year, 755 students will be fed on weekends and school vacations.

“In 2012, more children are being fed with you donation through new procurement procedures and wholesale pricing structure. In addition, more variety is being offered to each child. Thank you again for your continued support and for feeding hungry children in the Miami Valley,” said Michelle Riley, CEO of The Foodbank, Inc.
