Weinberg Northwest Regional Food Bank
Wilkes-Barre, PA – On a continual basis Woodforest National Bank employees perform a multitude of fundraising events benefitting the Woodforest Charitable Foundation.  Both Woodforest National Bank and Woodforest Charitable Foundation are committed to making a positive impact in the communities in which Woodforest serves. This partnership benefits the community and organizations such as Weinberg Northwest Regional Food Bank which recently received a $1,050 donation from the Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

The Food Bank serves partner agencies throughout four counties in Northeast Pennsylvania: Luzerne, Lackawanna, Susquehanna, and Wyoming.  These agencies include food pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, group homes for the disabled, day care centers, children's camps and senior citizens programs. The Food Bank offers dry goods including canned and boxed non-perishable food items, frozen goods and fresh produce from their 13,500 square foot warehouse. The food bank offers free delivery for large orders or multiple agencies in the same location. Coordinated Purchasing is another service offered to enhance an organizations buying power. Nutrition education as well as menu planning and cooking demonstrations by a registered dietician can be found at the Food Bank.

For the thousands of food insecure children in northeastern Pennsylvania, the story of hunger is all too real. Across four counties, the Food Bank is fighting to feed children who often go home to empty dinner plates. These children rely on their schools' free and reduced-price meal programs for their daily nutrition, but have nothing to eat while at home on weekends and school vacations.

To help with this growing need, the Food Bank offers numerous feeding programs aimed at ending childhood hunger. Food 4 Kids After School Program provides hot, healthy, home-style dinners to after-school programs throughout Northeast PA. Snacks are also available when hours of operation do not allow dinner service. The Food 4 Kids Weekends program is an emergency food assistance program designed especially for kids who would otherwise have nothing to eat on the weekends. Children who are hungry are able to access non-perishable food for themselves and their siblings for the weekend or holiday vacation. The Food 4 Kids Summer meal program provides much-needed healthy food to kids in the summer when school is out and school meals are not available.
