Central Illinois Food Bank recently received a $2,515.00 donation from The Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Established on June 7, 1982, by a coalition of local churches, the Foodbank began modestly operating from borrowed warehouse space with just three staff members and distributing around 65,000 pounds of food per month in its first year. Its mission is to provide food and develop awareness of, and creative solutions for, food insecurity, guided by core values like partnership, stewardship, resilience, and accessibility. Today, the organization operates a 56,000 sq ft distribution center in Springfield, Illinois, and collaborates with over 140 partner agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, residential and after-school programs across 21 counties to distribute over 8–12 million pounds of food annually. Their services also include educational initiatives like the Kids Café program and the Kitchen Cart nutrition outreach, helping families cook, learn about healthy foods, and build long-term food security.
