Woodforest Charitable Foundation

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank was founded in 1982, following an initial one-day demonstration project on World Food Day in October 1981. Permanent operations launched on October 16, 1982, in a converted movie theater in Steelton, PA. Its core mission is fighting hunger, improving lives, and strengthening communities, delivered through collaborative partnerships across its 27‑county service area. As the largest hunger‑relief organization in central Pennsylvania, the Food Bank operates two Healthy Food Hubs in Harrisburg and Williamsport. Partnering with over 1,130 local agencies, it distributed more than 50 million nutritious meals last year and serves over 253,000 people each month, including many working families and children. Their programs include School Pantry networks, Senior Box distributions, MilitaryShare for veterans, Mobile Pantries, BackPack weekend packs for children, and partnerships that integrate food access with healthcare and SNAP outreach.
