Daily Bread Ministries, operating the Greer Soup Kitchen in Greer, SC, was founded in July 1990 by concerned local citizens who recognized and responded to hunger in their community. On its first day, it served just one meal; today it provides over 150 hot, nutritious meals daily in a restaurant-style facility staffed by approximately 125 volunteers representing more than 50 area churches and businesses. Their mission is to feed the hungry by providing one hot nutritious meal a day…and to help end homelessness in the Greer community, supported through donations of time, food, and finances from individuals, churches, and civic groups. In addition to meal service, Daily Bread operates the STEP (Shelter to Empower People) program, a structured, 90‑day support system with transitional shelter apartments, life-skills classes, and counseling, designed to help homeless families transition back into stable, independent living.
