The Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (Duncan NRI), established in 2010, is a pioneering research facility dedicated to understanding and treating neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders in children and adults. Located within the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas, the institute is a collaborative effort between Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. It was made possible through a transformative $50 million gift from Jan and Dan Duncan, reflecting their commitment to advancing medical research and improving patient outcomes. Under the leadership of renowned neurogeneticist Dr. Huda Zoghbi, the Duncan NRI has become a global leader in neurological research. The institute is home to over 400 scientists and 37 principal investigators, working across 10 core laboratories. Since its inception, researchers have published more than 1,700 scientific studies, discovered over 85 disease-causing genetic mutations, and initiated multiple clinical trials aimed at developing effective treatments for conditions such as epilepsy, autism, Alzheimer’s disease, and depression.
