Society of Samaritans recently received a $15,000.00 donation from The Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

The Society of Samaritans (SOS) began in 1986, when founder Judy Everett responded to a divine calling to “feed My sheep” by sharing food and clothing from her own home, actions that quickly inspired community-wide support and led to forming the nonprofit organization. SOS’s mission is to meet the needs of the community with respect and compassion, sharing the love of Jesus Christ through the provision of food, clothing, emergency financial assistance, job services, and disaster relief for residents in need throughout the Magnolia region. Today, SOS operates as a coalition of local churches, civic groups, and volunteers, offering comprehensive services such as a food pantry, clothing and household items via their Resale Shop and Giving Center, emergency utility/rent assistance, prescription support, job services, and MISD-based care closets for struggling students. In 2024 alone, they supported nearly 60,000 neighbors, facilitated thousands of grocery deliveries, clothing vouchers, and snack packs for children during the school year, all powered by the dedication of volunteers offering over 20,000 service hours. In essence, the Society of Samaritans stands as a powerful model of faith in action, bringing the community together to respond compassionately and holistically to hardship, while restoring dignity and hope to those they serve.
