Established in 1982 by Dottie Hanson and Rita Jenkins, Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland was created to address growing food insecurity in central, south‑central, and western Kentucky. Serving a network of more than 200 agency partners across 42 counties, the organization gathers, rescues, and distributes millions of pounds of food, delivering over 14.9 million meals last year, including approximately 3.2 million pounds of fresh produce. Their mission is to feed our neighbors in need through local community partnerships, ensuring equitable access to nutritious food while striving to end hunger across the region through innovative outreach, education, outreach, and advocacy efforts.
