Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore recently received a $7,040.00 donation from The Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Founded in 1981 by a group from the Southeastern Tidewater Opportunity Project with $50,000 in USDA grant funding, the Foodbank was one of Virginia’s first food banks and initially served as a regional clearinghouse distributing food to local nonprofits, delivering 400,000 meals in its first year. Today, it operates across a 4,745-square-mile service area, including cities like Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and surrounding counties, with a mission leading the effort to eliminate hunger in our community and a vision of creating A Hunger-Free Community. The Foodbank distributes over 24 million pounds of food annually through its warehouse operations and an extensive network of partner agencies. It also runs mobile pantries, 757 Mobile Markets, Kids Cafe, and Backpack Programs to reach vulnerable populations efficiently and effectively.
