Galveston County Food Bank recently received a $3,000.00 donation from The Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Founded in 2003 under the name Gleanings from The Harvest for Galveston, the organization began modestly in the back office of a church on Galveston Island. By 2004, it moved to a larger facility to manage the growing demand, and following the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, it relocated its warehouse operations to Texas City and formally became the Galveston County Food Bank in 2010. Their mission is clear and powerful: "Leading the fight to end hunger in Galveston County.” The Food Bank provides easy access to nutritious food for economically disadvantaged and underserved populations through a vast network of charitable partners, schools, and Food Bank–managed programs. Beyond distributing meals, they connect families to resources like healthcare, job placement, childcare, and family services to support long-term recovery and self-sufficiency. Today, the organization works with over 80 partner agencies, schools, and mobile host sites, delivering more than 700,000 pounds of food each month, serving approximately 23,000 individuals across Galveston County. Their targeted initiatives include mobile food distribution, homebound nutritional outreach for seniors and people with disabilities, and children’s nutritional programs like Backpack Buddies and Kidz Pacz.
