Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank recently received a $430.00 donation from The Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Founded in 1984 out of the Urban Ministries Coalition during a severe economic downturn in Baton Rouge, the Food Bank began with volunteers distributing surplus bread and donated food from the parking lot of Victoria Baptist Church. Its mission is to feed the hungry in Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes by providing food and educational outreach through faith-based and community partners. Serving 11 parishes, the organization now works with over 100 partner agencies, including pantries, meal sites, and shelters, to distribute more than 16.6 million pounds of food annually, equating to about 12.8 million meals in 2024, supported by nearly 15,000 volunteers and over 58,000 volunteer hours. Programs include the BackPack Program for children, Adopt‑A‑Senior senior grocery boxes, Mobile Pantries, Food Is Medicine clinics, and adult nutrition education through Cooking Matters, each focusing on nutritious access, dignity, and long‑term wellness.
