Reading, Pennsylvania -  Woodforest Charitable Foundation recently donated $3,150 to Greater Berks Food Bank located in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Tough economic times are making it a lot harder for some families to put a hot meal on the table. It seems now that the holidays are right around the corner, the demand for food is growing even more. Woodforest Charitable Foundation’s recent contribution of $3,150 will help Greater Berks Food Bank purchase and distribute food to those less fortunate.

The Greater Berks Food Bank (GBFB) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1983 by a group of local religious leaders concerned about the community’s hunger problem. The GBFB collects, stores, and distributes food to more than 250 charitable programs (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, after school programs, and senior housing facilities) in Berks, Schuylkill and western Montgomery Counties. The Food Bank distributes nearly 4 million pounds of food, valued at more than $5 million, annually from its warehouse to programs which in turn distribute the food to local residents in need. On average more than 20,000 individuals receive food monthly from the food pantries.

"In this economic environment too many families are having to make a choice between feeding their family and providing other essential necessities,” said Kim Marling, Vice President of Woodforest Charitable Foundation. “On behalf of the Woodforest Charitable Foundation and Woodforest National Bank, we are pleased to support Greater Berks Food Bank, as they continue to distribute food to over 250 charitable agencies in Pennsylvania. We challenge others to join us in our efforts to end hunger in our communities.”
