“They Could Not Even Hope to Wish: They Knew Their Wishes Would Not Come True”
After losing my full time administrative when my employer’s business was bought out, I found part-time work as a substitute teacher while looking for another job. Times were hard for me and I had to go to Harvest Hope for food, but in December I was heart-broken to learn how hard it was for others.
I was teaching a fifth grade class in December just before the break and asked the class if they were excited about the holidays and what they were wishing for. Everyone was excited except for five students, who became quiet and even sad. I asked one little boy if there was anything he wished for, and he very quietly told me his family did not have a lot of money and he did not know if they would even have supper that night. I had to fight to keep back my tears as I realized for this little boy and the other sad children in the class, they could not even hope to wish because they knew their wishes would not come true. – 56 year old woman who visited the Emergency Food Pantry
