Founded in 1981, Harvest Hope emerged from a shared vision between local faith leaders and business champions in Columbia, SC, to address food insecurity in the region. Its mission is guiding: to transform lives in the communities we serve by feeding the hungry, addressing food insecurity, and building a healthy and hopeful hunger‑free tomorrow. As South Carolina’s largest food bank, it operates across 20 counties in the Midlands, Pee Dee, and Upstate regions. The organization rescues and distributes nutritious food, from surplus retail donations, federal programs, and direct procurement, to over 300 partner agencies, including pantries, shelters, schools, and senior centers. It also runs two public emergency food pantries in Greenville and Columbia, providing free, week-long grocery supplies to anyone in need. Beyond food distribution, Harvest Hope works to address root causes through programs like Mobile Food Pantries, SNAP outreach, nutrition education, and partnerships with minority farmers. Annually, it provides over 25 million meals across its service area. Its core values include social justice, respect, collaboration, and equity, ensuring dignity and access for all neighbors.
