Woodforest Charitable Foundation

The Eastern Shore branch was established in 1981 when the Maryland Food Bank opened a facility in Salisbury to better serve the rural and agriculture‑dependent counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. In its first year, the branch distributed the equivalent of about 33,000 meals across eight counties; by fiscal year 2024, it distributed over 5.5 million meals through a network of 175 distribution points and 62 partner agencies. The mission of the Maryland Food Bank—including its Eastern Shore branch is Feeding people, strengthening communities, and ending hunger for more Marylanders. Through this branch, the organization focuses on initiatives like the Farm to Food Bank program, school-based pantries, mobile markets, and culturally inclusive food sourcing to meet the unique needs of its coastal communities and combat rural food insecurity with dignity and equity.
