Woodforest Charitable Foundation

The Heart of Alabama Food Bank was founded in 1986, initiated by the United Way Community Council and the local Red Cross in Montgomery, Alabama. It became a certified affiliate of Feeding America in 1989. Its core mission is to nourish the hungry, educate and mobilize the community, engage in partnerships that advance self‑sufficiency, and gather then distribute food to those in need. Through over 200 partner agencies across a service area of 12 counties—and via four affiliated food banks covering 35 counties in Central Alabama—it sources, acquires, and distributes nutritious food so that children, families, and seniors facing food insecurity can thrive.
