Montgomery County Food Bank recently received a $100,000 donation from The Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Founded in 1985 by Betty Hardy, who originally fed families from the trunk of her car, the food bank has grown into a central hunger-relief organization in Montgomery County. Its mission is to “unite the community to fight hunger”, leveraging a network of over 70–80 partner agencies, school districts, and mobile programs to distribute nutritious food to those in need. Each year, the organization provides over 9 million meals (roughly 8–11 million pounds of food), serving more than 65,000 individuals per month, including children, seniors, and families facing food insecurity. Operating innovative programs like their on-site Produce Rescue Center, mobile markets, school pantries, senior food outreach, and nutrition education workshops, the Food Bank not only alleviates immediate hunger but also promotes sustainability and healthy eating choices. Over its 40-year history, the organization has expanded its facility to meet growing demand and continues working to build a hunger-free Montgomery County.
