Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley was founded in the early 1980’s, by a group of lay and religious community leaders. Currently, their 153 member agencies feed over 15,000 people in the tri-county area per week. To meet the growing need for food assistance, the Food Bank’s staff and numerous volunteers work to ensure that hungry seniors, families and children in our Valley have the food they need to live healthy and productive lives.

Their mission is, “The Food Bank's mission is to solicit, store, and distribute food to hunger-relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties; and to provide education and advocacy. We believe that no one should go hungry, and we are dedicated to building a community that makes food accessible to all people.”

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley participates in several feeding programs, including Mobile Pantry, Ohio Benefit Bank, SNAP outreach and BackPack Program.
The BackPack Program is designed to ensure that children in the program are not going hungry over the weekends and on holidays when other sources of food are not available.

“It helps my family, and we have more food at home.” – Child in BackPack Program
