Woodforest Charitable Foundation

Founded in August 1998 by Shirley Grimes, the Tamina Community Center emerged from a profound desire to support local children and families after school hours. The Center was inspired by initial summer park programs in 1997 and has since evolved into a vital nonprofit resource hub for the community. Its mission is to offer a safe, enriching environment where children can receive academic support, engage in life-enrichment activities, and build essential skills outside of school. Over the years, the Center has expanded its offerings to include a computer lab (and GED preparation), food pantry services, counseling and family outreach, and vibrant community events such as the annual Spring Festival, bringing residents together and strengthening social bonds. In essence, the Tamina Community Center stands as a beacon of hope and unity, working to uplift children and families with compassion, opportunity, and a deep sense of belonging.
