The Rose Mobile Mammography Program, established in 2006 by The Rose, a nonprofit breast health organization founded in 1986 by Dorothy Gibbons and Dr. Dixie Melillo, aims to provide accessible breast cancer screenings to women across Southeast Texas, especially in underserved communities. Recognizing that many women face barriers such as lack of time, transportation, or insurance, The Rose introduced mobile mammography services to bring 3D mammography directly to workplaces, schools, clinics, and community centers. Since its inception, the program has served over 8,700 women across 43 counties, with 65% of participants reporting they would not have had a mammogram otherwise . The mission of The Rose is to save lives through quality breast health services, advocacy, and access to care for all, ensuring that every woman has the opportunity to detect breast cancer early, when it is most treatable.
