Woodforest Charitable Foundation

Weinberg Regional Food Bank was launched in 1996 as a program under the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) to improve hunger relief efforts across Northeastern Pennsylvania’s Luzerne, Lackawanna, Susquehanna & Wyoming counties. Their mission focuses on helping residents move from “hungry to healthy” by sourcing, storing, and distributing nutritious food—including fresh produce, to local partner agencies such as pantries, mobile markets, and emergency meal sites. Operating out of the state‑of‑the‑art Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Center for Healthy Living, the Food Bank manages over 300 partner organizations and distributed 17.6 million pounds of food in 2024, enough to serve over 1.1 million individual meals annually. Their work extends beyond handing out groceries: programs include nutrition education, community cooking events, SNAP outreach, and large-scale holiday distributions, ensuring dignified access and a holistic approach to ending food insecurity across the region.
